Training Update
Ramping up the long runs to the 5+ hour range and getting over 6K vertical. Thankfully, my buddy Matt has been game to keep me focused and working hard. He will do well in his first ultras this year.
Climbing Whitebird Ridge. About 2000 feet in 3 miles. Good to get some sun exposure in our vitamin D deprived bodies.
The 4 mile bridge, Brandi and Katie.
The Seven Devils in Spring conditions. The beard in full on, epic, ZZ Top condition!

I won Killian Jornet's Shoes
http://www.runningtimes.com/Article.aspx?ArticleID=25821
KJ's shoes! This shoe has a hand drawn profile of the Western States course with notes from KJ himself. There are only 106 pairs of these in the world and all are size 9- my size. Nevermind they are made by the evil Salomon empire, hellbent on world domination:)...they look sweet and fast. Maybe I will have them bronzed.
To get the shoes, I won a Running Times photo contest with this pic of my lovely wife Brandi:

Spring Elk
Been spending some time in the elk woods lately...checking out the herds for the upcoming season. Makes a great outing to combine a run and scouting session. Chasing elk really racks up the vertical.
Cows scurry along a ridge. Strange fish-eye effect in the photo.
We seeeeeeee you. Oh, wait...they see us too. Hard to put one over on a group of vigilant cows. A few seconds later this group would disappear into the abyss.
8 bulls in a bachelor group sprouting new antlers.

A big week!
My new wife. Wow, hot.
My new mistress. She's 40..............percent grade that is.
At 40% pitch, that's 2112 feet of ascent per mile. Imagine a never ending Hope Pass summit push. The beautiful thing is you can program any map you want to run and it shows you running on it in Google Maps. If it is a road run, then you even can run with a Street View. This week, I ran the Grand Canyon river to South Rim, several laps of Brundage and Granite Peaks near home and some big climbs on the Bighorn 100 course. This was my first week of running since the ankle injury and it's coming along fine. Probably a few more weeks until 100%. I'm sticking with the 'mill until it is totally stable and trustworthy.
Best thing about getting married- the 10 lbs of carrot cake!
Weekly report: A ridiculous 602 feet of gain per mile! All treadmill. I'll take it. Lots of good strength and rehab sessions too.
